Winter

Winter

Vestfjarðaleiðin route during winter can be a bit different from the route during summer, well it can be a bit different from day to day or even hour to hour. Weather can change rapidly in Iceland all year round, but thanks to great science, computers and forecasts it can be predicted quite well, giving travellers tools to work with when planning their trip.

Above is a map of the route with information on how frequently the roads are cleared during winter, some are cleared daily while others are cleared a couple of times a week, or even less. When planning your trip it is necessary to take snow clearing into account, but also to look into the weather forecast for the upcoming days, snow conditions in each region and current road conditions.

Snow and road conditions can vary greatly from the south part to the north part of Vestfjarðaleiðin, it is therefore important to stay up to date on all conditions while driving on Vestfjarðaleiðin during winter.
